Darth Mexican’s Pick: Video Games

Darth Mexican’s Pick: Video Games

It should go without saying that the writers of Geek Lyfe are in fact geeks themselves. Although not all geeks are the same and we are all geeks of different genres. One aspect that a lot of us can relate to is good ol video games! We all have various tastes, so in a way of telling you a bit about ourselves, each one of us will list five of our favorite games per writer every week, this week is Darth Mexican!

DeAngelo AKA Darth Mexican

1. Skies of Arcadia

What other game allows you to be a sky pirate, gathering allies from various nations, customize your sky ship both cosmetically and for combat, is filled with side missions and has one of the most original concepts I’ve seen even to this day. You’ll lose hours of your life traveling around this world fighting the government and other pirates.

2. State of Decay

There are a lot of Zombie survival games out there in the marketplace, some good and many bad. However, State of Decay stands above the rest while still going unheard of. In State of Decay you play as the survivors, there is no one main character, and your goal is to not just survive but to thrive in this undead apocalypse. There is an overall story to the game with plenty of side missions to keep you entertained. The combat system for the most part is fair, allowing you to use melee weapons, guns, cars and anything else you can think of to help fend off zombies. Be warned though, each survivor does count and some side missions can only be completed or evens tarted with certain characters. Plenty more people will join your crew but that’ll also mean you’ll need more supplies. It really gives you a sens of what things might be like in that kind of situation.

3. Lunar Legend
I love me some J RPGs and Lunar Legend is exactly that! I picked it up as a wee lad while it was on sale as my one purchase from a game store for my birthday and it completely blew my mind. The storyline for this
game is as deep and as rich as many other JRPGs. Set in a fantasy land, a young boy stumbles upon a hidden truth with friends and they vow to right the wrongs of the world. Along the way they encounter unique characters and finally confront the big boss. I do not want to spoil anything for anyone who might pick it up but I will warn you that there are plenty of feels to be had when you play Lunar legend. ;_; Enjoy!

4. Vampire the Masquerade

I’m guilty of mentioning this game quite a few times in this blog and I do it for a very good reason: It’s amazing. You play as a Vampire, you do vampire things in a vampireish setting and fight other creatures fo the night(Like vampires). This isn’t like other vampire games where they focus all on combat and nothing on story. This is an RPG so it’s thick with story and rich characters. I’ve already said say much about this game in other articles so I’ll end my fanboying here.

5. World of Warcraft

Although this is a mainstream game and I tried my best to avoid naming the ones that have more than likely affected all of us(Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario, Sonic etc.) but World of Warcraft has been a huge part of my life. I joined during the Burning Crusade release in 2004 with a legion of friends from High school.  While they all chose to be Alliance, which is one of the two factions at war with one another in the game, I chose to be Horde and that decision led to meeting tons of new friends, enemies and forging cherished memories that rival even those that took place in real life. When I was rejected, stood up, got picked on or bullied at school, my friends on World of Warcraft always stepped in and made everything better. I still keep in touch with them on a regular basis and we’ll every so often break our clean streak and re sub to play together. If you enjoy creating your own unique character and forging your own path in a fantasy world via raiding tough monsters, fighting members of the opposite factions, buying/selling goods on the auction house etc. then this is the game for you. Even better, they offer a starter version up to level 20.

Every week we’ll feature an Editor giving you a list of their personal favorites! What are your favorite games? Post them in the comments below!
