Madam Geek Recommends: Game Grumps

Madam Geek Recommends: Game Grumps
Whether you’re Grump or not so Grump, this YouTube channel can brighten your day. The Game Grumps crew has the ability take nearly any game and make it entertaining. I have fallen victim to occasionally laughing until I cry or quoting episodes in casual conversation. Finding myself humming the Banana Shoes remix is a common occurrence as well. These charming folks have not only brought joy to my day on countless occasions, but have also given me a great YouTube series to spread to fellow geeks. Read on to find out my top five episodes of Game Grumps.

Super Mario 3D World

Game Grumps takes Super Mario 3D World to a whole new dimension. The dimension where they caress your funny bone in an awkward yet satisfying manner. For a co-op game, there sure is a lot of betrayal. This entire series will keep you laughing on the quest to ruin Bowser’s day. As an added bonus, the comments featured on the Miiverse start including the fans trying to reach out to The Grumps and it’s a beautiful thing.

Sonic 06: Episode 20

Sonic ‘06 as a whole is wonderful, however this episode is kind of like a sliver beneath my skin that I never want to dig out. The Grumps get the chance to step into Knuckle’s shoes and soar through the sky like a gracefully flowing frisbee. Further in, Arin drops some frustration-fueled advice straight from the heart that needs to be engraved on wood and sold at Pier 1.

Mario Party 8: Finale

Put The Grumps in front of a competitive game and 95% of the time it will be entertaining every time. As with Sonic ‘06, this is a good series as a whole. That being said, the running joke about Palpatine and all of the different rhyming lines just leaves me tickled. In a game that can make even the strongest of friendship foundations crumble, Arin and Dan remain firmer than a Nokia being ran over by a monster truck.

Wind Waker: Part 19

Game Grumps gets real during this episode and hits me in the feels as directly as Luke’s proton torpedos to the thermal exhaust port. A brief moment of seriousness in a sea of hilarity is quite refreshing. Dan opens up about a rough time in his life and the transition from childhood to adulthood.

Dog Island

I had no idea that a children’s game could be as amusing as this or as raunchy. Not only is the heart-wrenching storyline of this game revealed but the voices that the two make from pup to pup are hilarious. Also, you get an informative look into the life of Noble, the smooth talking pimp. He can be a real dog. If I had one wish from gathering all of the Dragon Balls, it would be for The Grumps to continue the Dog Island series. Or you know, world peace.

The amount of joy which can be brought on by Game Grumps is like pi, infinite. These are just a few of my favorites, and choosing a top five was more difficult than the water level in Ocarina of Time. The chemistry between the Game Grumps crew is undeniable, and their other shows (Steam Train, Date Grumps, Grumpcade, etc.) are equally as fun to watch. If you’re already a fan, what episodes are your favorite? I’m always looking for recommendations, so leave a comment and let me know what I should be watching!
