Cosplayer of the Week: Sukoshi Cosplay

Cosplayer of the week is Sukoshi Cosplay and she hails from California! 😀 She is a super dope cosplayer that loves anime and all things costuming! She has been to a number of conventions over the years and has brought so many awesome costumes to them! It is great to get the chance to interview her and I hope you enjoy!

The Geek Lyfe:  There may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?

Sukoshi Cosplay: Of course! My name is Levi Perkins and I’m an 18-year-old cosplayer who’s from the Central Valley of California. There’s not much to really know about me other than that I’ve pretty much dedicated my life to cosplaying ever since I first started.

TGL:  How long have you been into cosplay and what led you down this path?

SC: I’ve been cosplaying since 2013 so about 4 years now. What got me into cosplaying was actually watching Sword Art Online on Toonami, I saw Asuna and instantly I wanted to dress up as her for Halloween. When I searched for a costume I kept seeing the word “cosplay” and I decided to look it up and from there on in I just dove headfirst into it with no regrets.

TGL: What has been your favorite moment?

SC: My favorite moment has been when I was cosplaying as Popstar Ahri and so many parents were having their kids take photos with me. These children would just look at me with the most amazing looks on their faces as they touched my tails. One of them even hugged one of my tails, it was the most adorable thing.

TGL: What was the worst day for you in your cosplay career, what happened, and how did you deal with it?

SC: I’ve had a lot of bad days in my cosplaying career because I tend to overwork myself and plan to many things but my worst day would have to be the same day as my favorite moment. My Ahri cosplay was falling apart and the tails kept slipping off their bases (at the time I had yet to realize zip ties would’ve done wonders), I had been stuck at the entrance for over half an hour because people kept taking photos (and I’m too shy to tell them I had to leave) and I was going to be late for a photoshoot that was at the other end of the convention center. On top of that, I was wearing heels and my full-sized tails weighed a good 10+ pounds so walking was hard. I waited patiently till I could slip away and I ended up getting escorted to my photoshoot by three nice men who saw me struggling. I had to keep my positive attitude and not let it get to me, which can be hard, but I looked past the difficulties and enjoyed the rest of the convention.

TGL: When you aren’t doing this, what do you do in your spare time?

SC: In my spare time I’m either working (employee at Hot Topic), watching anime, or sleeping (I’m a very tired person 24/7).

TGL: What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies, etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?

SC: Anime has made the biggest impact on my life. It has brought out my creativity in ways I’d never thought I’d have. It’s opened me up and made it easier for me to socialize when I met someone with the same interests and it’s also boosted my self-confidence. Before I got into anime and cosplaying, I was way more introverted(still am but not as bad) and didn’t really know what I wanted to do in life. Cosplaying has opened me up and allowed me to be more of who I am and express myself freely.

TGL: You are a supervillain and moments away from taking over the world. Which two characters from any universe do you have by your side to help you fend off the heroes?

SC: Being the anime nerd I am, I’d have to say I’d want Sinon from SAO and Takashi “Shiro” Shirogane from Voltron. Despite both of them being good-natured characters, Sinon has the amazing sniper skills and Shiro has the stunning hand to hand combat that’s needed to help kick ass.

TGL: Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?

SC: Yes! I’m currently working on a magical girl D.Va cosplay based off of the artist Shourca and her D.Va artwork.

TGL: Out of the costumes you have done in the past, which one has been the most difficult and why?

SC: The most difficult cosplay would have to be Popstar Ahri. At first, I had no idea how to make the tails and all I knew was that I wanted it big. I ended up making the base out of PVC and it looked good but then I realized that the fur I had ordered hadn’t arrived and it was four days until I left for the convention (I am a massive procrastinator). It arrived with three days before the convention and even then the outfit was incomplete. I made all 9 tails, the ears, hat, and outfit in three days and it was a stretch running in less than three hours of sleep but I got it done, more or less.

TGL: What advice do you have for any aspiring cosplayers out there?

SC: My advice would be to cosplay whoever you want and don’t feel like just because an outfit looks difficult that it should hold you back. Nothing has to be exactly how it looks, you have that creative initiative to make it how you want it. Body size, skin color, etc. shouldn’t hold you back from cosplaying your favorite character if you love that character and put effort into making the cosplay it’ll show and that’s really want cosplaying is: showing your love and passion for a character and taking that chance to portray them how you want to along with just having fun and expressing who you are.

Thank you again so much for Sukoshi Cosplay for answering a few of our questions! 😀 She is super cool so be sure to check out her page for more awesome content!
