Adventures at Rose City Comic Con!

Hi everyone!

The Sassy Goblin and I recently embarked on a quick two day road trip to San Francisco from our home base of Washington. Luckily on the way there we were able to make a FANTASTIC stop at Portland, Oregon’s 4th annual Rose City Comic Con. We had never attended RCCC so it was exciting to see what it would be like!

We attended RCCC on a Sunday so it wasn’t too crazy packed, but there was still a large amount of people there. I must say that if you ever want to attend a more classic con with a laid back feel I’d definitely try Rose City. The people at the con were all just so friendly! 😀

Now Sassy Goblin and I were in a bit of a time crunch so we were unable to attend any of the wonderful panels RCCC featured, BUT we did get to see all of its awesome show floor and wonderful guests that they had.

First up on our to do list was to see some of the guests, we chose to meet:

Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger-Nightmare on Elm Street)

William Salyers (Rigby-Regular Show)

and Zach Callison (Steven Universe-Steven Universe)

As always the celebrity guests were wonderful and very kind and talkative to all the fans that came out to see them. William Salyers, one of our FAVORITE voice actors, even remembered us from last years Emerald City Comic Con! We got a photo with him and discussed our love of True Detective and how he wishes that Moral Orel hadn’t been cancelled. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO CANCEL IT CARTOON NETWORK?!

*Ahem*

After seeing the guests we decided to take a stroll through Artists Alley. Let me tell you this, Portland’s artistic talent is no joke. The artists on display were superb and it was hard to not buy one of every print at each stand. Perhaps the artist that I was most excited to see was renowned scifi artist Jeff Sturgeon (although he isn’t from Portland… he’s a Washington artist lol). Jeff paints on metal to get that amazing 3D effect and has been a staple of the scifi book cover community. Check out his work and I’m sure you’ll be all like “Ohhhhh!! I know his work!” XD

Check out all that depth guys… WOW. All with acrylic paint and metal!

Just outside of Artist Alley there was a whole other type of art medium going on as well! The local tattoo shop Area 51 (featured on A&E’s Epic Ink) were also there blasting beautiful art onto people’s skin. I’m glad to see that getting tattooed at conventions has become so popular! It’s so cool to see someone getting the geek tattoo of their dreams right before your eyes! 🙂

Area 51 artists Chris 51 and Jeff Wortham were there tattooing away! Here are some examples of their wonderful work! 😀

Not only were there amazing artists at RCCC, there were also amazing cosplayers! I’d have to say that I was most impressed with the armor and prop building skills displayed at RCCC. If you want to see great foam work I’d recommend checking our RCCC’s Facebook because it was THAT awesome. I was very excited and surprised to see the world’s most famous Mr. Spock Cosplayer, Spock Vegas, was attending RCCC as well! He was so tall and in character that I was blown away!

Mr. Spock Vegas was there collecting money for charity! Cosplaying for a cause!

Overall RCCC is a great con and one we would definitely love to attend again. It’s cosplayer and kid friendly and just had a great vibe to it! 10/10 will be returning next year 😀
