Hype: BLACKPINK Is the First All Female K-Pop Group to Play at Coachella

BLACKPINK is going to become the first female K-pop group to play at massively popular musical festival Coachella. The girl group hailing from South Korea was revealed to be a part of the lineup, which features headliners such as Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, Billie EilishTame Impala and even Idris Elba.

BLACKPINK was formed in 2016, their members being Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. They have achieved immense success internationally. Their song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” surpassed fellow K-Pop super stars BTS and Psy to become the most-watched Korean music video on YouTube.

BLACKPINK achieved a new audience when the group collaborated with Dua Lipa on the bilingual song “Kiss and Make Up” last October. Making history, the collaboration made the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, making the group the only Korean all female group to have multiple songs on the iconic chart.

Coachella is held in California will be BLACKPINK’s debut in the U.S. In the past the music event has gathered over 100,000 attendees. This year, Coachella will happen from April 12th to 14th, and April 19th to 21st. BLACKPINK is to perform on both Fridays across the two weekends.

With the inclusion of K-Pop groups in major US music festivals, we can only expect that it’ll foster more K-Pop fans to attend, and it will be great for new K-Pop fans who’ll walk into the event knowing almost nothing about the genre! They’ll be instantly converted. I mean, how could you not?
