Iconic Blackjack Movies You Must Watch

Blackjack is one of the few games of chance where strategic thinking, attention to detail and discipline work better than simple reliance on luck. With a high risk-reward ratio, the game adds drama to any movie as it allows for character development as well as creating a situation in which relationships can become clear.

Blackjack offers players a good chance of a win as the house edge is low at 97 per cent. Playing bovada blackjack online allows you to play at anytime, anywhere knowing that your personal information and finances will be safe and secure. Your experiences will be fun and not as scary as some of the great films featuring blackjack that are worth watching.

Casino (1995)

Director: Martin Scorsese

This gangster movie tells the story of Sam “Ace” Rothstein (Robert De Niro), who oversees a casino in Vegas with his friend Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci). In one scene, Santoro sees that players are cheating at a Blackjack table, with one person standing behind the dealer and relaying the details to associates at the table. Santoro catches the cheater and gives him two options, either forfeit his winnings or take the winnings but face serious consequences.

The Last Casino (2004)

Director: Pierre Gill

This movie from Canada has an almost identical storyline to the later more famous ‘21’ which is focused on card counting by the MIT Blackjack Team in order to win. In this movie, mathematics Professor Doug Barnes, already blacklisted from a casino, recruits three excellent mathematical students and teaches them to count cards in blackjack in order to win thousands of dollars from the casinos.

Licence To Kill (1989)

Director: John Glen

While James Bond might favour baccarat or poker when at a casino, in the 1989 movie Licence To Kill, there is one iconic blackjack scene in which Bond (Timothy Dalton) plays stakes against the villain Franz Sanchez that become so high that the tension is particularly memorable. Of course, Bond gets the money and Sanchez’s girlfriend, the beautiful dealer played by Talisa Soto.

21 (2008)

Director: Robert Luketic

A thrilling movie based on the true story and best-selling book Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. The film exposes the morality and ethics of card counting at the blackjack table and is the only Hollywood movie that has blackjack as its focus, with the six MIT students and experts in card counting use their skills, and some covert signalling, in the casinos of Las Vegas and Atlantic City to win big.

Rain Man (1988)

Director: Barry Levinson

Rain Man is about winning at blackjack through card counting. Raymond Babbitt (Dustin Hoffman) is an autistic savant who meets his estranged brother Charlie (Tom Cruise) after the death of their father. Ray has the ability to memorise numbers and carry out fast calculations, a skill his brother uses to win in the casino. The blackjack scene shows how much drama the card game can create.
