Review: West Game is a Wild Wild Waste of Time
When we were little, many of us watched Clint Eastwood on the big screen carrying a giant gun, an awesome cowboy hat, and a mean look and instantly wanted to become cowboys.
Or more modernly, West World with the Man in Black.
When I found out that there was a mobile game that was all about the chaos of the wild west, I was immediately drawn to it. This game is called West Game and, just like its title, it comes up bland compared to other games. However, the game isn’t all bad and in certain aspects is legitimately fun which is the reason why I am even giving this game its own review.

The Good
West Game has a lot of incredible art that is downright beautiful. All the way from the starting tutorial to even the character selection, you’ll find Wild West-themed art every which way. You can tell they put a lot of love into the aesthetics. What I appreciate most though is that they have a lot of diversity when it comes to their characters showcasing native Americans, Latinos, Black people, and more. Seeing such rich, diverse skin tones is sorely needed in most modern mobile games. Most series simply offers token a single token character that is black and is placed behind a paywall.
There is also a gun shoot out with a rival gunslinger that is fun as well, giving you that feeling of a duel. When it comes to Alliances, you can actually create your own small city by everyone contributing resources and then it spawns a hub with a radius. If players have their base inside of the radius then it provides various bonuses to the players. Along with the bonuses, you can further contribute to increase the size of the radius as well as the bonuses, giving players a direct benefit for helping others.
The Bad
West Game falls short primarily in its quality of life features. While most games on the market allow you to choose the number of items to apply, you manually have to press the ‘Use’ button, wait the .5 seconds for it to load, and then press it again. While this seems like such a minor aspect, it comes into play frequently to the point where it becomes such a bother. This game also does not offer a way to have multiple builders or researchers at the same time unless you pay for it and even then it is for a short amount of time. This causes the game to drag on and on, waiting for your base to slowly build which removes the need to even open the game throughout the day.
On top of that, gaining resources is very slow and tedious. Even if you max out your resource generators, it’ll take you days of waiting for it to produce enough to allow you to produce units, buildings, and research bonuses. While you do have the ability to send your troops out into the world to farm at resources at nodes, the gathering time can take a while and the amount it provides is only a moderate amount. In my experience, by the time you even get close enough to purchase the upgrade you want, you’ll more than likely get attacked by an incredibly over-leveled player who will kill all of your troops, take all of your resources, and then teleport away.
This leaves you having to slowly gain the resources to heal injured units so they can go out and gather, and then hope you can recover before you get attacked again. While it may seem like joining an alliance and being a part of a community might help, it actually makes things worse. Having a bunch of low-level players right next to one another creates a buffet for the higher levels to not only strike you down but also the others. While you can purchase shields to bubble your base, they tend to be expensive.
I originally got into this game for the sole purpose of reaching level 15 on my base and usually, this means 2-3 weeks of daily playing but West Game is so slow that I had taken over a month and I’m still so far away. Everything is locked behind a paywall that it is pay to win. A lot of games offer bundles to allow players to get resources and bonuses but they also make the game playable for those who do not wish to pay, usually by hard work through events. Yet there are many aspects that can only be obtained through paying them and that takes away a lot of the fun since this game is not fun enough on its own to justify any sort of purchase that it does nothing but backfire.
There are so many other mobile games out there to play and enjoy that you should not waste a single moment of your time with West Game. If the development team is able to offer more quality of life features and balance certain aspects, I could easily see this becoming enjoyable but for now, I hate it.

Also, the game allows people to store as many resources as they want in a level 4 town that is kept shielded and then port it to a new server to redistribute to their alliance. They start the game with billions of resources which is very unfair to everyone else. It pretty much happens on every server now. West Game knows about it but doesn’t seem to care.
