Bored of the Console? Here’s a Few Other Ways to Get Your Game On

No matter how much we all love our Switch, our PS4, or Xbox…sometimes you just need a break from the console. Occasionally you just want to veg out with a game that’s a little simpler, or a little retro, rather than immersing yourself in the involved, time-consuming world of the RPG. A little gaming R&R, if you will. Lucky for you, there are tons of options out there for when you want gaming light, and they’re all affordable and fun.

Downloads and Apps

Have you ever noticed when you buy a new laptop, it comes pre-installed with some games? We’ve probably all played solitaire or minesweeper when the internet is down, but most computers have really fun games that are either pre-installed or provide you with links where you can download it; many of these games also offer you subscriptions (free or paid) to sites that have tons of other games, too. These are usually fun, challenging games that are engaging but not overly-challenging, with eye-popping visual graphics and satisfying levels. Think Bejeweled, or Tetris. These can be a great way to unwind and relax – there’s a reason why people sometimes play these before bed. Did you know that a recent study actually showed that Tetris literally relieves stress and trauma?

Most of these games are available for PC and on your phone, so get to playing that Plants vs. Zombies!

Virtual Arcade Games

These are so much fun. Who doesn’t like a little retro gaming now and then? Sometimes you just want something that isn’t so much high-tech as it is just good, plain fun. Options like the digital pinball machine, online cards, pool and more can be a really fun way to rewind by yourself or with a second player. These games have high-def graphics, realistic sounds and the game-play is just like the arcade versions, so you can get your nostalgia fix right in the comfort of your own home. Without having to change out of your pajamas. Solitaire is often a popular one for people who are looking to have a few games on their break or during a studying period as its still challenging to the brain but it allows you to have a break from other things that you are focusing on. You can play it in many forms, with a pack of cards, online, or even downloading.

Interactive Videos

These days, everything is interactive. Anything can be made into a game. If you have a Roku device or tv, you might’ve noticed that you can actually download gaming channels – little miniature games like air hockey or snake that you can play right there on your tv, for a quick gaming fix when you don’t have a lot of time or energy to devote to it.

Quiz Apps

When you feel like working your brian a little but Jeopardy isn’t on, and nobody wants to play Trivial Pursuits, download one of the many quiz apps like Kahoot or others on your phone. Create and send quizzes to your friends, compete with people around the country, and show off your brain power!

It’s always a good idea to take a break from the endless gaming marathons on your console every now and again. When you want to play a quick game without the commitment, try one of these fun, affordable and easy options to get your game fix without all the other complicated stuff.
