Shiver: Junji Ito’s Nine Best Short Stories Is A Gold Mine For Horror Lovers!

Junji Ito is the master of horror as he has come out with some of the best works of fiction to date. Recently Viz Media has begun a new anthology highlighting his work and we were granted a copy to review. The moment I received it, I ripped open the package and dove right in. I had never read any of Junji Ito’s work but had seen iconic art pieces so getting to experience these haunting tales was fantastic.

If you are unfamiliar with his work, he focuses on dark story telling and unfortunate situations and flawed characters who typically make the wrong decision or have no chance of survival. Most stories start off innocent enough but each and every panel creeps towards utter dismay. I cringed multiple times while reading the various tales because I knew what was coming around the corner or was completely caught off guard by the major reveal.

I am not going to lie, some of these tales gave me night terrors because the story telling and art was so impressive. Now that I have been exposed to his work, I just have to purchase more of his work! I high recommend Shiver: Junji Ito Selected Stories to any horror fan because you will have a time so good that it will be frightening!

Shiver has 392 pages and contains nine short stories in manga form. It can be found where ever books are sold and comes in a nice hardbound cover that offers addition information about the author and artwork.

Darth Mexican
Darth Mexican has been a geek since he first saw a lightsaber ignite. He has strong feelings on subbed anime. He strives to represent the stories of the common man and woman regardless of skin tone, age, sexual preference, or nationality. With every article he strives to bring representation to the voiceless. Unless he finds out they like dubbed anime.
