Star Wars Battlefront: Beta Access Announced

It’s getting SO CLOSE! Star Wars Battlefront, the epic shooter set in the Star Wars universe releases in just 2 and a half months. And today, Electronic Arts announced that the beta will be coming to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC sometime in early October!

The new Battlefront is being developed by the people at Dice, who have been bringing us the Battlefield games for a while now. So we can be confident that they know how to deliver on team based, objective shooter filled with vehicles. This is actually a different studio than has brought us the previous Battlefront games, which was Pandemic Studios.

The beta will bring a decent selection of game modes to try out. Biggest of all is the centerpiece battle from The Empire Strikes Back, the battle on Hoth. Entitled “Walker Assault on Hoth”, this is the mode that Dice and EA have been showing off quite a bit recently in the E3 demos and the large play through videos. This will bring us a massive 40 person battle, and can give players the chance to experience playing as Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker.

Next up is a Survival Mission, set on Tatooine. It tasks 2 Rebel players to survive multiple waves of Imperial Forces.

Also announced is a mysterious new mode called “Drop Zone”. They’ll release more information about it in the future.

Also releasing with the beta is a companion app for Battlefront. The app will provide a fun strategic card game called “Base Command”, as well as letting players receive notifications while actually playing Battlefront. The app will be available for Android and iOS prior to the game’s release on November 17th.
