Cosplayer of the Month: Drefan Cosplay

When asking the public what Cosplay is, their first instinct is more than likely to bring up small waisted, big breasted women thrown in a skin-tight outfit that is geek related.
Although it may be true that this body type is indeed apart of the cosplay family, it is but a single speck of sand on a very large beach that is this hobby. Anyone who attends conventions knows that there is no limit to the number of body types you’ll see from black, white, tall, short, slim, more to love etc. And even bodybuilder status body types, which leads me to Drefan Cosplay. It’s one thing to make your costume to be as accurate as possible but Drefan Cosplay takes costuming even further by pushing his body to the limits to get that giant muscle-man figure. The best part about Drefan is that he is incredibly kind and modest. He is one of the best interviews I’ve ever had! Without further ado, here is the Cosplayer of the Month: Drefan Cosplay.
The Geek Lyfe: Although I have been a huge fan for quite some time, there may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?

Drefan Cosplay
No problem! My name is Drefan, and I’m from Singapore. I’m 30yrs old, and I’ve been a geek/jock almost all my life. Kinda like those hybrid classes in RPGs. Hahaha.

DC: I have been cosplaying on and off since 2005. That was about the time I had to quit competitive sports due to serious injuries and was looking for that… spark of life somewhere. And so, i found cosplay!

TGL: What has been your favorite moment either cosplaying or building costumes?

DC: Bringing a character to life and getting all excited with fellow geeks, definitely! It feels like the ultimate
tribute that any fan could give.

TGL: Favorite or most frustrating costume or piece of a costume?

DC: Hmmm I tend to have a soft spot for costumes that have fur, chain, cool hair and armour, fantasy/medieval stuff, and of course, muscles. I get frustrated with myself all the time!

TGL: When you aren’t cosplaying or building costumes, what do you two do in your spare time?

DC: Workout. Clear my enormous backlog of games/anime/manga/movies. Take care of animal companions. And try to learn new languages. Try to.

TGL: What anime, manga, comic book or video game would you say has made the biggest impact on your life and why?

DC: Oh man, there’s no way I could choose. But I’d have to say it would be video games. The journeys are that much more sentimental because they are interactive. 1959415_594720803957618_711223823_n

You are thrown into the fields of justice and everything is on the line as you go top solo against the infamous, Teemo. Which character that you
have cosplayed in the past do you become to fight this terrifying Yordle?

DC: I burst out laughing at this. Kratos? Shao Kahn? Or maybe a Marvel character. Comic characters tend to be OP. But if it’s just LoL, it should be Pantheon i think?

TGL:Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?

DC: Not sure. Maybe Thrall from World of Warcraft, for a WoW 10 year anniversary event end of Nov? And Spiritguard Udyr as a guest for the League of Legends TLC grand finals end of Dec. I’m aiming to be able to switch between the four forms(rank1) at any time with the use of lights.

TGL: What advice do you have for any aspiring cosplayers out there?

DC: Don’t be shy. Keep your priorities in check. Open-mind. Learning attitude. Respect. Try your best. Have fun!
